Director’s statement

Murmur: a film about a young woman who makes a dawn escape from a commune she has grown to distrust. It explores how we perceive events differently based on our past experiences – comfort and security to one person is a confined prison to another.

The concept was taken from a short play by Simon Cookson. I love Simon’s writing, his dialogue is ambiguous and subtle and always contains double meaning and visual fables. Murmur was made through Directors UK who partnered with ARRI Media to the run the ALEXA Challenge. We shot this film in 2015 which was BEFORE The Handmaiden’s Tale came out 😉
