Director’s Vision for ‘LeTZ PLaY A gaME’
Shifting from working with incredible, hard-working crews to a one-person setup—just me, a camera, and my daughter and her friends—was both humbling and exhilarating. I’ve always wanted to shoot something at a fairground, and to make that happen on a whim, I had to go it alone. Armed with a Sony FX3 (you can catch my setup at the end of the short), we spent one intense night capturing the essence of late ‘90s PG-13 horror/thrillers.
As far as the story goes, I wrote it with the fair’s energy in mind, and hoping like crazy we could find an ominous door to lead us to our final scene, which we later shot on a family farm in Tennessee (in below-freezing temperatures!). So glad there was a building that worked.
One of the greatest joys of this whole process was watching my daughter tune out the would around her and immerse herself in this little world we created. She totally crushed it.
I’m also incredibly grateful to colorist Maxim Golomidov, who nailed the look I envisioned, and Skysound Productions for creepy AF sound design. Both are longtime collaborators and brilliant.
My hope with LeTZ PLaY A gaME is that it gives viewers a few chills and, but above all, inspires other filmmakers to grab a camera—no matter the size of their crew or their budget—and just start making movies. It’s so, flipping fun. Thank you for watching.
