Anna gets her first abortion accompanied by the ghost of her quirky Ukrainian great-grandmother.
Director’s Vision for ‘Kiss My Ass’
I wrote this screenplay about a young woman on her way to get an abortion. Though the woman might appear alone to onlookers, she is actually escorted by the ghost of her great-grandmother. The war on women’s bodies is systematically designed to feel isolating, shameful, confusing and bleak–a series of farcical laws and regulations set in place to wear down both the woman and her abortion provider. To me, this is governmental theater at it’s best. I made this film because I believe the spirits of our ancestral women are urging us to go forward. To move past what little was possible for them and live out what they could not.
