Director’s Vision for ‘I Would Be The Bullet’

In the summer of 2024, in the middle of pre-production for client projects, I felt the pull to make something personal. It had been years since I’d worked on my own material, so I wrote a three-page script with simplicity in mind, a story that could be shot in two days. I Would Be The Bullet follows Anthony and Jacob, two men drawn into a sudden, obsessive attraction. Anthony, a photographer, is consumed by the desire to immortalize Jacob, while Jacob is captivated by Anthony’s work and presence, determined to write about him. The short was originally planned as three minutes, but working with Gage Fitzgerald and Ty Johnson, I allowed moments to expand, exploring the unsettling intensity of their connection. From Anthony posing nude beneath strobe lights in his studio while wearing a floral headpiece typically reserved for brides, to the pair’s encounters under the CTA brown line tracks and in dimly lit nightclubs, the film explores desire as both muse and trap. Anthony’s ritualistic self-expression and Jacob’s willingness to be consumed illustrate the consequences of acting out of scarcity and the hunger for immediate gratification. As Anthony acts on his desires, he ignites a loop that hints at a new body of work, which will be fully realized in the feature adaptation. The production itself was revelatory. Every choice, from framing and pacing to the subtle tension in actor interactions, reinforced the characters’ obsessive dynamics and the film’s thematic weight. The short became a proof of concept for a larger story examining intimacy, ambition, and the collateral damage of love between men. In the feature, One Of Your Boys, Anthony and Jacob’s relationship unravels completely, pushing boundaries of love, creativity, and legacy in increasingly dangerous ways. This project reminded me why I make films. I explore desire, obsession, and human vulnerability through a lens that is intimate, unflinching, and visually expressive. I Would Be The Bullet stands on its own while serving as the first step in a story that challenges the viewer to confront the extremes of connection and artistry.
