A woman returns to her childhood home after a death in the family. Amidst a surreal drive down winding midwestern roads, she attempts to reconcile where she came from with who she’s become. An open letter to the places that form us and an honest look at the experience of outgrowing them.

Director’s Vision for ‘Haunters’

In 2024 my wife and I moved back to the Midwest after living internationally for years. Our expectation was a sense of homecoming and relief. What we experienced instead were intense feelings of alienation in the places we knew best. This film is a vulnerable expression of our attempts to reconcile our connection to those places with the ways we both changed in our years away, and a realization that the places and people that watched us grow will never fully leave us. Claustrophobic and comforting all at once. My hope is that this story offers solace to anyone redefining what home means. Perhaps we’re all haunters in one way or another.
