Director’s Vision for ‘Game Night’
My roommate and I set out to create a short that challenges the way we see normal societal relationships. Oftentimes in this day and age, our culture is exposed to more consensual relationships that fall outside the heteronormative nature of one man and woman. While we have made strides when it comes to consensuality amongst same gender or nonbinary couples, the demographic on what we describe as open relationships appears taboo. Enter: Game Night.
Our goal, through hopefully an unraveling and entertaining experience, is to display to the audience members that couples who have wants or desires outside of their relationship shouldn’t necessarily be shunned as different or abnormal. Rather they should be accepted as another way to live life right up there with traditional and new relationships.
Are You Awake? is a deeply intimate story following a person who no longer sees the point of it all. With sprinkles of sci-fi and mystery, the film highlights the dread of staleness, the impact of a bad idea, and the role of companionship in a world weary to step outside. Feature script available.
