A young trans woman travels back to places she visited as a child with her mother, reflecting on memory, loss, and grief.
Director’s Vision for ‘Everywhere I Look’
Growing up in rural Kentucky, being queer was never easy. Though in recent years I’ve flourished by embracing my trans identity, gaining the acceptance of others was a struggle, most of all with my mother. As our relationship deteriorated, I found myself torn between the desire to relish in the memories we shared together, and the pain that these memories brought me. Everywhere I Look was my attempt to face what I feared most: losing my mom. The filmmaking process quickly became an exercise in grief, and allowed me to forge a new connection with my mom despite her absence from my life. This film is an artifact documenting our love, and I’m grateful I get to share it with the world.
