“Chele” is about a mixed-race boy who’s alienated from his immigrant, Salvadoran mother. Through the discovery of his biological father, he gets a better understanding of her love and sacrifice.
Director’s Vision for ‘Chele’
As writers, we believe in bringing a piece of us onto the screen. Chele is inspired by Rudy’s childhood so the story is very special and personal to us. It’s fundamentally about the relationship between a first-generation child and his immigrant mother. But it’s also about the sentiment of an innocent boy who is forced to grow up and deal with real life. It expresses a universal emotion of the alienation we feel when we don’t belong and the loneliness that we experience when we grow up.
