A grieving singer on the brink of giving up her dream audition finds unexpected courage in a voicemail from her late father.
Director’s Vision for ‘Big Wins’
Grief has always fascinated me, but I didn’t truly understand its weight until I lost my father to pneumonia in 2017, just one year before I got married. It was a season where joy and sorrow existed side by side. I was celebrating one of the happiest moments of my life while grieving one of the hardest losses I had ever experienced.
Then, in 2024, my daughter was born. Becoming a father changed me in every way. It also made me think about grief from a completely different perspective. I found myself reflecting on how the people we love continue to shape us long after they’re gone, and how becoming a parent carries the responsibility of leaving behind an imprint that will outlive us.
I’ve always dreamed of having a daughter, and being blessed with one as my first child made those questions feel deeply personal. Big Wins was born from that place. I wanted to explore not only grief, but fatherhood, legacy, and the quiet ways a parent’s love continues to guide us even in their absence.
My hope is that Big Wins reminds audiences that while grief never truly leaves us, neither does love. The people we lose continue to live through the values they instilled, the lessons they taught, and the lives they helped shape. In that sense, every “big win” is never ours alone.
