It’s 1968 in Malibu Beach: a year before the most infamous women of the Manson Family made gruesome national headlines. When follower Susan Atkins writes a vinyl record for the man she loves, it begins to spin out of her control.

Director’s Vision for ‘and the heavens must have cried’

The stories I like to tell often have a unique sense of empathy and deal with topics that have a foothold in American culture. When Hannah approached me with the script, I was taken aback by the complicated perspective she gave the women in this story. She sought to explore both the explanation and evil within the young women who lived around Manson, and his dark influence over their decisions. It was wonderfully written with a daring experimental and musical quality. As a director, I was excited and fortunate to work on such an awesome piece with this amazing cast of Hannah, Remington, Eve, Amanda, and Nathan.
