Director’s Vision for ‘A Nice Lady’
As a new mom living on the Upper Westside of Manhattan, I’d break away to run in Central Park, joining the throngs of other runners like cars on a highway!
Stretching post-run, I began to recognize the regulars roaming Strawberry Fields. They were young guitarists, bead-sellers and street artists, hanging near the Imagine Circle. Included in this population, a beautiful young couple. They began to recognize me as a park-runner and we would say hello. Every so often, I would buy them a bagel or a soda. I saw them outside of the park one night, arguing on a street corner. He was yelling and she was scared. They asked me for money and I quickly offered a $20, and excused myself. I never saw them again.
This story was born out of what I’ve imagined happening, if I were someone who would’ve given them a place to stay.
