Inspired by films like Wim Wenders’ Paris, Texas and David Byrne’s True Stories, photographer Jason Lee set out to document residual American landscapes across Texas in early 2017 with large format color films for his recently released book A PLAIN VIEW. This short documentary follows Jason on the road during a four-day stretch in West Texas.

Director’s Statement

I wanted to make a film that was an ode to the American photo-road trip. Jason had been posting about his first two trips in Texas for his book, and it sounded so inspiring to be out there and taking in these picturesque environments. He often quotes one of his favorite photographers, Henry Wessel, saying “it’s thrilling to be outside your mind, your eyes far ahead of your thoughts.” I just loved the idea of trying to show that calming yet exciting feeling of a road trip in a film. It’s about being open, and receptive. It’s about discovery.
